In my previous post, I mentioned I've been doing the caregiver thing. Because the body involved has been declared homebound for the immediate future, I've been doing a lot more cooking, so I've dived into my recipe card file (yes, I'm all analog there). I'm dredging up a bunch of Ancient Recipes and recipes I've cut out of magazines and feeding them to the guinea pigs, uh, PEOPLE, I live with.
Here's an easy one. A real no-brainer, and CHEAP, yet it gets raves whenever I make it!
Oven Roasted Potatoes
2 1/2 - 3 lb raw potatoes washed and cut up (small red potatoes halved, russet potatoes cut into wedges)
1/4 c olive oil
1 t salt
1 t pepper
1/2 t garlic powder
In a bowl, mix the oil and seasonings, then add the potatoes and toss until well coated. Spread in a single layer, cut side down, on a large metal lipped baking sheet (like a jelly roll pan). Bake at 450 degrees on the lowest oven rack for 30 minutes.
The first time I made this with red skinned potatoes, just as I was putting them into the oven, one of Those People I live with said, "What ARE those things? They look WEIRD." I guess red-skinned potatoes were not in that one's culinary experience. However, they were a hit, nonetheless.

I'm BACK! (You've Been Warned!)
I've already talked about my knee replacement surgery a lot. What I can say now is it was totally worth it! I can stand and stand and stand, and my knee no longer starts to hurt and causes me to shift my weight to the other leg. I've gone back to the gym! I walk without a limp!
HOWEVER...
Ten weeks after mine, there was a second knee replacement at our house, and it took a detour. I've been concentrating on the caregiving part of that particular medical event, and many things (including my blog!) have been relegated to the back seat.
Let's just say that I have learned MANY things medical that I could have happily continued NOT knowing. EEEWWWWW!
Things have sort of calmed down a little (or maybe I've finally adjusted to the new temporary normal), so I'm back to annoying you with my random ramblings.
You've been warned!

A New Season of CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) - What I Got
The first official CSA pickup was this past week, and here's what we got!
Green lettuce
Red lettuce
Kohlrabi
Radishes
Green onions
This year, it works a little differently. Instead of showing up and picking what you want from what's available, a couple of days before the pickup day, you are emailed a list of what's going to be offered, and then choose what to pick up. Then the price of what you choose is charged against your membership fee. There were some weeks last year that I wasn't all that thrilled with what was on the list, so those weeks felt kind of wasted. It's an evolving system.
Four weeks ago, we got a preview of what was to come. LETTUCE! It was pretty good, so I ordered some this time around.
Because I tried (and liked!) kohlrabi last year, I got some again. They are HUGE! And so PURPLE! Here's how I prepared them last year. They went over really well.
That Man likes radishes, so I got some especially for him. I probably should have gotten an extra bunch.
Green onions go into a lot of things. Hmmmm... Maybe I should have gotten an extra bunch of those, too.
Anyway, it's another season of fresh veggies from the church's organic farm - YUM!
